Here’s something we don’t think of very often as RV owners: what if we purposefully shifted some of our tongue weight back for more stability? 

The snow is blowing. The temperatures have sunk to polar levels. Shoveling loads of snow becomes a normal morning routine. And all you can think about in the evenings after you get home is how you wish you were at the warm, sunshiny beach in a far away land. Desperate, you start browsing for reservations for your summer travels, but it’s just so far away - will it ever come?

Picture this: It’s a beautiful sunny 70° day. Out your window is a small group of palm trees and other exotic foliage. A small lizard skitters up the tree nearest to you and pauses - just bathing in the sunshine all the while looking for another tasty bug morsal to snatch up and eat. You turn back to your left and continue typing your e-mail and hit send. Stepping out of the front door, you stretch and take a short break, enjoying the sunshine and vitamin D soaking into your veins. It’s February. It is warm. And all is perfect with the world.

This is not something I just made up - this actually happened. A few months before, we had sold our house back in Montana and...

Imagine this: You, your spouse and kids, and even your two dogs load up in your SUV or truck ready for your awesome camping weekend just down the road a few miles away. The family is excitedly talking, the children are cheering, and you sense a feeling of pride that you’re doing one of the most all-American things you can do. From the east, a small breeze picks up and gently tugs your truck and rig to the side. In the back of your mind you have this nagging feeling, though. You know the RV-in-tow is a bit on the heavy side (and maybe, just perhaps, a scoosche long), but that’s ok! The RV dealership and all the “experts” on Facebook in the special, dedicated truck forums, and even your friend with good “car know-how” told you you’re definitely fine. Afterall, I’ve installed heavy duty shocks and airbags. Everything’s going to be alright…. right?

How do I know this is the right thing to do? Will it be everything I expected? Well, picture this: It’s fall and you’re in the mountains with the beautiful changing trees. You’re enjoying the great outdoors with your family, come back to base camp, have a nice warm dinner and game time, and then go to bed.
