Why Buy an RV?
Picture this: It’s fall and you’re in the mountains with the beautiful, changing trees. You’re enjoying the great outdoors with your family, come back to base camp, have a nice warm dinner and game time, and then go to bed. In the morning, you wake up and a fresh blanket of snow has fallen.
But you’re ok because you have your nice, warm RV to keep you comfortable. It’s…. perfect.
Winter RV Camping
Yes, this actually happened and we have the photo right here to prove it. That evening, while it dumped snow, we were in our nice warm beds with the furnace on and watching a rather frazzled version of Home Improvement on TV - making the best of what signal we got. This is one of many picturesque scenes we’ve experienced over the years.
But this was something we really wanted. We knew there would be challenges ahead. We knew not everything would go perfectly (and they commonly didn’t), but we were fully prepared and motivated. And, in the end, it paid off.
The truth is - some people are more cut out for RV life than others. There are many reasons to buy an RV from simple recreation, a forced or voluntary living situation, or a work requirement for lodging. Ours was exactly this - to stay where we wanted to for extended periods of time.
During our early exploration years, we traveled to remote locations on our RZR or just in our main vehicle for day trips. We saw many places we wanted to stay longer - say, perhaps, 2-3 days. But we were always bound to what we could fit into a day and still have enough energy to drive ourselves home - tired and drained for the next few days. But if we could just find a way to stay there - to experience the sunrises or the sunsets or just to do only part of the things we wanted to one day and the rest the next. Tent camping is OUT for our family - we’re afraid of the bears and moose (not that our solution here would necessarily prevent that kind of disaster, but it’s certainly less risky 😅).
Take the Comforts of Home With You
Here, we hike and explore all day, come back, take a HOT shower, make a warm meal, then sit out and actually enjoy the stars and the camp fire before we go to bed.
But it didn’t stop here. Although this was relatively near where we lived, we also wanted this RV to really travel. To go long distances without having to leap from hotel to hotel. To not have to unpack and pack every single little thing up again every day. This was our ticket. And it worked…. pretty well. Until we outgrew it, but that’s another story.
