Winter is the perfect season to prepare for your spring and summer RV adventures!

The snow is blowing. The temperatures have sunk to polar levels. Shoveling loads of snow becomes a normal morning routine. And all you can think about in the evenings after you get home is how you wish you were at the warm, sunshiny beach in a far away land. Desperate, you start browsing for reservations for your summer travels, but it’s just so far away - will it ever come?

We’ve been there. It’s times like these that we wander Google Maps in search of our next destinations. Let’s browse along the coastline to see if there’s any RV parks with beach access. Let’s see what kind of adventures we can have on the way to visit family across the United States. What are the possibilities?

Timing - Purchases and Reservations - best made during the winter months

But if you’re a potential RVer, you might be inclined to wait it out until spring so you can finally get to the dealerships and browse for your next big purchase. But wait - why not start that journey now!? Actually, by starting early, even by a couple months, this will give you plenty of time to logically think about what exactly you want to do, what fits you the most, and what you can actually afford. That’s where we come in to help you out on your journey. By starting early, we can calmly guide you through your purchase, or in the very least, help with your RV education to know if you’re prepared with your tow vehicle and your new (or used) RV. Because, believe me, when spring sets in and you go to the dealership unprepared, you’re liable to walk out with a rig that is either too large and dangerous for your new lifestyle or something that just doesn’t fit you or your family exactly right.

Actually, if you’re dead set on going for the gold and making your RV purchase this year, keep in mind that you still need to book some of these campgrounds early. And in order to do that, you need clarity on what you are going to buy. RV length and age restrictions apply in many RV parks, national parks, or other campgrounds.

Traditionally, we wait until early February to make our reservations - right when the cold is at it’s bitterest point here in Montana. We should be booking earlier for campgrounds that fill up faster and those that let you make reservations greater than 6 months in advance. But we’ve been pretty lucky so far. Let’s change your luck by getting you started sooner.

Off-Season Prep and Projects - best done in fall, winter, and early spring

If you’re already an RV owner and plan on keeping your RV for some time, now is a great time to catalog and start buying the items you need like soaps, toiletries, replacement dishes, batteries, etc.… Furthermore, I’ve found that this is an excellent time for interior upgrades, because right now, you’re not in a hurry to get a project done right this minute. If something breaks, you can order a part and still have plenty of time to install it another weekend. No rush means minimal anxiety which means a more thorough install or repair. Simply head on into your RV, crank up the heat and let it warm up for about a half hour, turn on some tunes while you’re inside, and you’ve got yourself a pretty nice environment to freely work on your project. For example, during the off-season, I upgraded our bathroom (which you can see in the video below - using some trick editing, of course, because not all was filmed during the winter) as well as replacing all our cabinetry handles/pulls, installed cut-outs for the bedroom night stands, and many other projects. Funny enough, doing these things in the off-season starts to build the excitement for your upcoming adventure - working in the environment that you’ll be recreating in in just 2-3 months!

For those of us looking forward to our new purchase, let’s work together by comparing floor models and figuring out what’s right for you so that you can participate in the pre-season excitement.
